How Greenowatt uses affiliate links, what they pay, and why they never shape what we recommend.

Some links on Greenowatt go through affiliate programs. If you click one of those links and then buy a product, the retailer pays us a small commission at no extra cost to you. Here is exactly how that works and why it does not bend the conclusion of an article.

What affiliate links are

An affiliate link is a tracked URL that tells a retailer “this visitor came from Greenowatt.” If you complete a purchase within the retailer’s tracking window, we receive a small commission, typically between 1 and 8 percent depending on the program and category.

Why we use them

Affiliate revenue is one of the small income streams that lets Greenowatt stay independent. Without it we would have to run display advertising more aggressively or take sponsored content from manufacturers. Both of those would shape what we write. Affiliate commissions do not.

How affiliate links never bend our recommendations

  • We pick the product category first, then look for retailers we would already recommend.
  • We never recommend a product solely because it pays a higher commission.
  • If two retailers carry the same product, we link to the one with the better return policy, not the one with the higher payout.
  • If the best option for our readers is one with no affiliate program, we still link to it without an affiliate tag.

Where they appear

Affiliate links typically appear inside product-awareness articles, budgeting articles, and beginner guides where we mention a category of gear, such as a Level 2 EV charger, a smart plug, or a small portable power station. We label commercial sections clearly with a note like “this section contains affiliate links.”

What we do not do

  • We do not accept paid sponsorships that dictate the angle of an article.
  • We do not place hidden affiliate links inside informational paragraphs.
  • We do not let an affiliate manager review draft articles before publication.
  • We do not run pop-ups or interstitials around commercial content.

Our active affiliate programs as of the date at the top of this page include retailers in the home improvement, consumer electronics, and energy storage categories. We update this list when programs change.

Your right to choose

You are never required to use an affiliate link. If you would prefer to search for a product directly, that is fine with us. We would rather you find the right product than feel pressured to buy through us.
