About Greenowatt

Greenowatt is the renewable energy site I wish had existed when I first started answering the practical questions my own family and neighbours kept asking: how do solar panels actually work, what does a home battery really cost, how much does an electric vehicle change your electricity bill. No jargon performance. No fake “expert” stock photos. Real numbers, real trade-offs, and writing meant for someone with a normal household, not an engineering degree.

Why Greenowatt exists

Most renewable energy writing on the internet is either marketing dressed up as advice or engineering documentation that assumes you already know what a kilowatt-hour is. Neither is very useful for someone at a kitchen table trying to decide whether to sign a solar quote or pick a heat pump over a furnace. The people who kept asking me those questions in person were the ones who needed answers most, and they were the ones who were getting the worst information.

So I started writing the honest version. When enough of it accumulated to be useful to strangers, we built Greenowatt as a permanent home for that work.

Greenowatt focuses on six everyday household topics:

How we work

Every guide on Greenowatt is written and edited by a human, by me or by a contributor with direct experience of the topic they are writing about. We refuse to publish numbers we could not show to a friend at a kitchen table. When we cite ranges, we cite the assumptions behind them. When we recommend a category of product, we explain how to evaluate it instead of naming a brand we get paid by.
